An EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) is an official document that shows how energy-efficient a property is. First introduced in 2007, EPC ratings are used across England and Wales to grade properties on a scale from A to G — with A being the most efficient and G the least.
A good EPC rating doesn’t just benefit the environment — it can also mean lower energy bills, a smaller carbon footprint, and increased appeal to buyers and tenants.
By law, landlords must provide tenants with a valid EPC before renting out a property, and certificates are valid for 10 years before they need to be renewed. Homeowners also need an EPC when selling a property.
